The common faults are - under seat connections and wires, comms unit on steering, earths or wire damage. If you get it on PP2000 it will point you in the right direction. Also to note, when the fault is fixed the light will go out on its own, no need to reset.
The other thing I found, is there can be an audible warning when your key battery is getting low, it is supposed to post a message on the info screen in the dash or instruments to say " Key battery low" or something similar. Oil level is good and reading OK on the dash when I turn key in ignition.
If you need to disconnect the battery and not do a BSI reset procedure, I have found the following has not given me any problems on a 2004 and 2007 C5 and a 2003 C3: - remove the ignition key from the car. - open the bonnet. - wait a few minutes for the BSI to shut down. - disconnect the battery negative terminal. When reconnecting.

If no then either an immobiliser or stop solenoid fault. Test the solenoid to see if it is getting 12 volts. If it is not then an immobiliser problem so the diagnostics should include the body control module (BCM), not just the engine. If it is getting 12 volts, remove it and test it. Connect it and turn the ignition on and crank the engine.
