The Squid and the Whale (same director as Marriage Story, though this one is a bit more concerned with the kids' perspective) Blue Valentine (another one with Gosling, and pretty crushing) A Separation (another great one, and the direction of the film surprised me) Gett (if you'd be interested in spending the whole time in a divorce court.
The first time I watched La La Land I hated it but now it is one of my favourite movies of all time. I love that it features elements of the golden age of film production and feels like it should have been produced many years ago. My favourite scene is the flashback/look at the alternative life through the montage.
Spoilers. Just watched The Platform and the ending leaves me quite unsatisfied. There are a few assumptions that we have to make ourselves at the end and frankly speaking, they seem to be quite a stretch. First, we have to assume that the girl reaches the top. Second, we have to assume the chefs/cooks find her there and understand the message.
Stranger in a Strange Land ending discussion. Just finished reading SiaSL and wanted to talk about the ending chapter. Specifically the part ābut, by the time that they (the old ones) would slowly get around to it, it would be highly improbable approaching impossible that the old ones would be able to destroy this weirdly complex race.
I absolutely loved the ending of this movie. One of the best parts was when Mia heard Sebastian play piano in his own club at the end, and everything that ācould have beenā flashed before her eyes. I almost believed that it was all actually happening, and for a moment I was happy.
After the phone call with her mom, (Present) the killer is still hammering outside the room. (Past) mom and killer fighting it out in the corridor. (Present) killer broke in and they brawled. MC dropped phone and ran out of room badly hurt. Killer suddenly goes quiet and stops chasing her.
